Olenyi Obollo Festival 2023: Taking A Look Into Rich Cultural Display of Obollo People

It was a great fanfare in Obollo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, as her people on 27th December, 2023 commemorated this year’s edition of Olenyi Obollo festival.

The festival was starstrucked with top government dignitaries and captains of industries in attendance.

They include, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the member representing Udenu constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Onah, the Commissioner for information and Communication, Aka Eze Aka, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke, and a host of other highly placed personalities

The festival also had in attendance almost all the traditional rulers in Obollo.

There were displays by different renowned and respected masquerades in Obollo land such as izaga, akatakpa, Enyi, gburrgburr, obollo Ag’Ag’, igele accompanied by frenzied groups that supplied their respective music.

The Deputy Governor, Barr. Ossai who was visibly impressed by the rich cultural display of Ndi Obollo and could hold his emotion and admiration for the wonderful outing as he was seen dancing gracefully with various groups.Also some officers of the Federal Ministry of Culture graced the occasion.

It was indeed a memorable festival as the masquaerades and dance groups in attendance thrilled the mammoth crowd that gathered for the event with their dazzling performances.

The highlight of the occasion was the traditional prayer for the sons and daughters as well as the land of Obollo by the eldest man in Obollo called the Esha.

Ndi obollo used the occasion to showcase to their visitors and guests their local delicacies such as okpa, ichipe, ayaraya, utara okpa, ebieriebie and others.

The people thanked the deputy Governor who represented the Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, and other dignitaries that came to witness this year’s Olenyi Obollo Festival and pledged to make the next edition an even greater event.
