Two Suspects Arrested For Electricity Wire Theft In Enugu

The police in Enugu State have arrested two for stealing electrical wiring and installation items.

One of the suspects, Sunday Ogbodo ‘m’ of Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area was arrested following a credible information received on April 6, 2024, at about 9 a.m by police operatives serving in Independence Layout Division, Enugu State Command.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, Daniel Ndukwe Ekea, said, several electrical wiring and installation items, comprising distribution boxes, rolls of cables, and many quantities of LED electrical bulbs, all valued at about one million, five hundred thousand Naira (₦1,500,000.00), were recovered from him.

He said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to having stolen numerous electrical wiring and installation items from different building construction sites in Independence Layout and other parts of Enugu metropolis, using his Peugeot 406 car, which was also recovered.

Ekea said the suspect’s confessional statements further led to the arrest of one of his conspirators and main receiver and distributor of the stolen items, one Ogbonna Collins Maduabuchi “m”, aged 40, of Amechi-Uwani Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area, on April 9, 2024, at about 10:50 a.m who also confessed to the crime.

He explained that further investigative actions were underway to arrest the suspects’ cohorts at large, while they would be arraigned and prosecuted once the investigations are concluded.

“Consequently, individuals who may have recently experienced such acts of theft of electrical wiring and installation items in their building construction sites, are advised to visit the Independence Layout Police Station for identification of the items and other necessary actions.”
