The Enugu State Committee on Local Government Assets Audit, led by Chijioke Ngwu, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, visited the Chairman, Enugu South Local Government Area, Hon. Caleb Ani.
The visit is part of the committee’s mandate to verify and document local government assets while addressing issues of theft, misappropriation, and illegal deals.
During the visit, the leader of the group, Chijioke Ngwu, highlighted the committee’s objectives, which include establishing a verifiable and functional asset base for local councils and sensitizing officials on maintaining clean financial records through effective management systems.
He lauded the Council Chairman, Hon. Caleb Ani, for aligning Enugu South’s activities with Governor Peter Mbah’s developmental agenda and urged maximum cooperation to achieve the committee’s goals.
While reiterating the committee’s commitment to making recommendations to the Governor on recovering stolen or encroached assets, Ngwu, interacted with local government officials and leaders.

In his response, Enugu South Council Chairman, Hon. Caleb Ani, commended Governor Mbah for initiating the committee, describing it as a timely intervention in promoting accountability amidst the state’s disruptive innovation agenda.
He informed the visiting team of the council’s proactive measures, including the establishment of its own Assets Verification and Recovery Committee in November 2024, chaired by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Anthony Egbo.
Ani assured the state committee of full collaboration and support.
The members of the state delegation included Dr. Ogbonnia Innocent, Mr. Ngene Nicholas, Mr. Richard Nnamani, and Mr. Hillary Amah. Present on behalf of the council were the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Anthony Egbo, Secretary Barr. Kenneth Nnyamah, HPM, Mrs. Nkeonyelu Onyekwelu, Treasurer Ven. Ejike Eze, Chief Christian Igwe, among others.
