An Enugu-based organization, The Potters Wheel Foundation (TPWF), on Wednesday graduated 76 youths on various vocational skill that would enable them to be self-reliant and financially independent.

Mr Godsown Onuzulike, the President, TPWF, stated this during an event to commemorate 2023 National Youth Day organised by the Enugu State Ministry of Youths and Sports on Wednesday in Enugu.

Onuzulike said the graduands were exposed to various entrepreneurial and vocational skills that would make them independent and employers of labour.

The president who noted that the graduation ceremony coincided with 2023 International Youth Day celebration in Enugu State, said the foundation keyed into the programme because all the graduands were Enugu-based.

He explained that trainees started training with the organization on Sept. 13, adding that they were trained on edible and non edible products that cuts across 41 different skills.

“They were trained on short term skills under bakery, confectionaries, hygienic skin care, allied, beverages, craft, animal husbandry and many others free of charge.

“The youths are well trained and ready to stock the market in Enugu, Nigeria and even globally with their products.

“When we started training them, there were over 120 trainees but today, those of them that are certified were about 76”, Onuzulike said.

He, however, advised other youths not to wait for white collar jobs that are elusive but should instead acquire a productive skill that would accord them financial freedom.

On the challenges facing the foundation, the president said the foundation wants to have a shared facility in all the three senatorial zones in Enugu to ease production by the youths.

“This would enable the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) certify their products through that platform to and so expand the spread of our products beyond Enugu State and Nigeria.

“The facility would bring about exportation and increase the state gross domestic product.

“We are also seeking revolving funds to support and enable them start their production immediately after graduation without any excuses”, he said.

The highlight of the event was the exhibition of made-in-Nigeria products by the graduands and and issuance of certificates to them.(NAN)
