The Chairman of Enugu South Local Government, Hon. Caleb Ani, on Monday inaugurated a verification committee for the Neighborhood Watch Association.
The initiative aims to address security concerns and ensure that only qualified individuals remain in the system.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ani expressed concern over the increasing number of individuals falsely claiming membership in the Neighborhood Watch.
He emphasized the need for thorough verification to strengthen security efforts within the local government.
The committee’s terms of reference include verifying the certificates of Neighborhood Watch groups, screening individual members to identify unqualified personnel, and recommending dissolution, reconstitution, or replacement of inactive or problematic members on the local government’s payroll.

The committee is chaired by Hon. Chinedu Agbo, with Barr. Kenneth Nnyamah as Secretary and Barr. Smart Chika Agbo as Legal Adviser. Other members include Hon. Peter Agbo, Hon. Chijioke Mbah, security officials from various divisions with Enugu South local government Area, and other key stakeholders.

In his response, Hon. Chinedu Agbo, who also serves as the Special Adviser on Security, thanked the Chairman for the opportunity and assured him of the committee’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.
He emphasized that the verification process would enhance coordination and ensure a more effective and functional Neighborhood Watch in Enugu South.
