The Wife of the former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, Patricia, has been conferred with a chieftaincy title, as “Odi Uko Na Mba”(Rare Gem).
The title was conferred on her by the traditional ruler of Attakwu, Akegbe Ugwu ancient Kingdom in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, HRM Igwe Greg Ugwu.
The honour was held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Igwe’s Palace, Attakwu, Akegbe Ugwu during the 21st coronation anniversary and 2nd Ofala of the monarch.
The title was in addition to various chieftaincy titles Nwobodo had received.
She received the chieftaincy title in the presence of some prominent traditional rulers in the South-East, including the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe; and the Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu.
Conferring her the honour, Ugwu, said Attakwu, Akegbe Ugwu ancient Kingdom, singled her out for the honour because of her commitment to the development of Awkunanaw communities and Nkanu clan, expressing optimism that the recognition would spur her to do more.
“She has done wonderful things in Enugu State and Nigeria, particularly in Akwunanaw. That’s why we are recognizing her today. My advice to her is to continue the good work,” he said.

The traditional ruler commended Dr. Nwobodo for her selflessness and extensive contributions to the community, the state, and Nigeria as a whole.
He emphasised the significance of acknowledging those who had made notable impacts, stating, “Titles such as Odi Uko na Mba are not merely ceremonial; they come with the responsibility of continued service and leadership.
“We encourage her to persist in her good work; posterity will be kind to her.”

Earlier, Sen. Ken Nnamani, the chairman of the occasion, emphasized the importance of preserving Igbo culture, urging traditional rulers to emulate Ugwu’s efforts to celebrate individuals who contribute positively to their communities.

The Obi of Onitsha, also praised Mrs Nwobodo, noting that her recognition reflected her exceptional contributions.
In a remark, the Enugu State Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, praised the practice of honouring those who have significantly contributed to the society.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting traditional rulers in their communities to uplift the people.
“It is our cultural duty to honour those deserving of recognition, especially individuals who have positively impacted society in any way, or who have excelled in their chosen professions.
“Today, the Odi Uko Na Mba 1 of Enugu State, Dr. Nwobodo, was celebrated as our people joyously rolled out the drums in her honour.”

Also, the Chairman, Enugu South Council Area, Hon. Caleb Ani, acknowledged the magnanimity of Nwobodo, expressing the hope that the recognition would motivate her to do more.
“This award signifies her immense contributions to the development of our local government and the state at large. Her generosity knows no bounds, and she is a staunch advocate for youth empowerment and the upliftment of the disadvantaged.”

Hon. Obiora Obeagu, Chairman of Isi-Uzo Council Area added that he was not surprised by the honour. “The Nwobodo family has a distinguished record of service to humanity, and this honour reflects that legacy.
“She joins her husband, our father Jim Nwobodo, in making valuable contributions to society.”

Igwe-elect of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Chief Aloysius Ogbonna, conveyed his congratulations to Dr. Nwobodo, emphasising that her chieftaincy title embodies her exceptional character.
“Her title signifies that she is a rare gem, someone truly special, and it is an honour for our community to bestow such a title upon her.”
Chief Ogbonna urged the younger generation to look up to her and emulate her admirable deeds, so they too may receive recognition in their own time.
Responding, Nwobodo, said she was elated that the honor was coming from her place of marriage and promised to be more committed in doing good.
“This award tells me this is truly home for me. I’ve always felt that, but it’s even more profound now. If I were to come back to life, I’d choose to live or marry in Enugu State again,” she insisted.
She remarked, “This chieftaincy award presents a great challenge to me. What I witnessed today exceeded my expectations and will inspire me to do even more. While I have received chieftaincy awards in the past, today’s is unique.”
The event was attended by notable figures, including the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, represented by his deputy, Bar. Ifeanyi Ossai and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia
Others are the former President of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani; former Enugu State Governor, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; and retired Justice Afam Nwobodo, among others.
