The Enugu State government, in collaboration with Porter’s Wheel Foundation, has concluded a two-week intensive training program aimed at equipping youths with practical skills.
The grand finale of the programme, held at the Enugu South Local Government headquarters, Uwani, Monday, marked the culmination of a training initiative that focused on areas such as food production and cosmetics.
The training, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is part of the state’s commitment to youth empowerment and capacity building.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Barr. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu expressed gratitude to the participants for their dedication throughout the training.
He emphasized the state government’s readiness to empower youths and make them valuable contributors to society.
According to the commissioner, the initiative aligns with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s vision of ensuring that Enugu State youths acquire essential skills for self-reliance and economic independence.
Highlighting the next steps, the commissioner announced that a selection process would follow the training, during which outstanding participants would receive financial empowerment to start their businesses.
He conveyed Governor Mbah’s goodwill message, reiterating the administration’s commitment to introducing more youth-focused development programs. The commissioner also praised the collaboration between the state government and the Enugu South Local Government Chairman Hon. Caleb Ani in implementing impactful initiatives.

In his part, Hon. Calab Ani, Chairman of Enugu South Local Government, expressed his gratitude to Governor Mbah for prioritizing the youth in his development agenda.
He commended the commissioner for initiating the program and noted that participants were selected from all 13 wards of Enugu South. Ani also thanked Porter’s Wheel Foundation for dedicating time and resources to train the youths and urged participants to apply the skills they had learned.
In further support of the initiative, Hon. Ani promised to provide training handbook/Manual to all participants, enabling them to start small and expand their businesses.
He encouraged the youths to not only practice their skills but also train others, thereby multiplying the program’s impact. The event underscored the Enugu State government’s commitment to youth development and collaborative efforts to build a self-reliant and skilled generation.
