The Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), says it provides free legal services to prison inmates, who cannot afford to hire a lawyer.

According to the group, it also reintegrates released inmates back to the society and provides free accommodation to the homeless ones.

The leader of the group, Prof Monsignor Obiora Ike, stated this during an advocacy visit to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Enugu State, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

Ike, said the visit was to identify with the Attorney-General, and reiterate their continuous collaboration and partnership with him.

He enumerated challenges facing CIDJAP to include lack of access to the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL), police interference, and delay in filling of information that hinders inmates appearances to court.

The cleric then appealed to the State Chief Law Officers to intervene in tackling the challenges to enable them continue their services to the down-trodden.

Responding, the State Attorney-General applauded CIDJAP for their effort in the past in rendering support to the prison inmates.

Udeh assured them of optimal service delivery, saying that Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is keen to actualise the core values of his administration in justice sector.

According to him, this informs why he surrounds himself with proficient and pragmatic foot-soldiers, who have what it takes to move the state to an enviable height.

The Attorney-General reiterated Gov. Mbah’s readiness to actualise a quick dispensation of Justice in Enugu by proposing a prerogative of mercy.

He appreciated the group for the visit, especially Prof. Monsignor whom he has high regard on.
