Ahead of the September 21 local government elections in Enugu State, the Udenu chapters of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) have endorsed the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Aka Eze Aka.
Udenu NULGE chairman, Comrade Ugwuodo Theophilus and his NUT counterpart, Comrade Timothy Eneje, announced the endorsement on behalf of the workers at the council’s Headquarters, Obollo Afor on Thursday during a rally in support of the chairmanship candidate.
This is a significant development ahead of Saturday’s election.
The unions leaders said: “Aka Eze Aka is the clear candidate of choice in this election due to his impressive track record as the former Commissioner for Information and Communication in the state.
“Aka is obviously the candidate of choice in this election. His track record as former Commissioner for Information and Communication sets him apart as someone who loves the welfare of workers and subordinates,” the Union Leaders stated.
In a remark, Comrade Kenneth Ugwueze, former chairman of NULGE, thanked the two unions for endorsing Aka Eze Aka and reiterated that his government would benefit everyone including the opposition and encouraged the people to come out en masse and cast their votes for Aka Eze Aka.
Also speaking, Comrade Obetta Jonas, the Deputy Chairman NULGE, Enugu State, said Aka Eze Aka, has the interest of workers at heart and appreciated Governor Peter Mbah for making it possible for Aka Eze Aka to emerge as the candidate for Udenu which he said aligned with the will of the people.
Responding, the chairmanship candidate, Aka Eze Aka, represented by a former Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government, and current Secretary, Udenu Stakeholders Forum, Hon. Onyekachi Ugwu, assured workers in the area that Aka’s government would be all inclusive, adding that their interest would always be protected.
This endorsement comes just a day after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the state level hosted a grand finale of its campaign for its candidates at the Okpala Square in Enugu, further solidifying Aka Eze Aka’s position as a leading contender for the Udenu LGA Chairmanship seat.
The overwhelming support from the NULGE and NUT Unions throws more light to Aka’s reputation as a candidate who prioritizes the welfare and interests of local government workers and teachers in the Udenu LGA.
With these endorsements, candidacy has gained significant momentum and is poised to make a strong showing in the upcoming local government elections in Enugu State.
