See What The Federal Government Is Blaming For Tomato Scarcity In Nigeria

The Federal Government has attributed the recent tomato scarcity in Nigeria to widespread farm infestations.
In a statement released on Monday, officials explained that the country’s tomato production has been severely impacted by pest invasions and plant diseases, leading to significant crop losses.

The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted that the Tuta absoluta, commonly known as the tomato leaf miner, has been particularly destructive.

This pest, alongside other diseases, has ravaged numerous tomato farms across key producing states, reducing the overall yield and causing a spike in prices.

Farmers have reported devastating losses, with many struggling to salvage their crops despite employing various pest control measures.

The infestation has not only affected the availability of tomatoes but has also put a strain on the livelihoods of farmers who rely on this staple crop for their income.
