Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Enugu State Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development And Chieftaincy Affairs, has advised traditional rulers to model their lives after Christ, reminding them that power comes from God.
Deacon Ogbodo gave the advice during the Royal Fathers’ Banquet of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International-Nigeria (FGBMFI-Nigeria) held in Enugu, weekend.
Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) is one of the largest networks of Christian Businessmen in the world, Founded in 1952 with presence in over 80 countries.
He urged the monarchs not to allow their positions to control them, urging them to adopt the servant-leader attribute of Jesus Christ to demonstrate good leadership.
The commissioner advised the royal fathers to be guided warning of severe consequences, especially for those who ignore God’s standards, even as he admonished them to learn from king Nebuchadnezzar’s punishment for his pride.
According to him, positions are given to men by God and according to God’s grace.
“The position you occupy is the position of God…and power is of God, the kingship is ordained by Him. For any king to succeed, he needs to acknowledge the-God-factor in all that he does.
“We have seen so many examples in the Scripture of kings that departed from the ways of God and the way they ended. The Bible says righteousness exalts a nation and sin is a reproach.
“The knowledge of God is prosperity and I also talked about Proverbs 25 vs 5, which says remove wickedness from the palace, from the kingship and rulership and then of course your rulership will be established in righteousness.
“Righteousness is key to success and to do otherwise is failure, that is my message for traditional rulers and that will enable the nation to grow,” Deacon Okey admonished..
He observed that the traditional institution was important organ that no state could toil with, urging them to rule with human face.

“To the glory of God,we are grateful to God for a day like this, that we were able to come together as a unit to address issues of kingship, rulership and the Church. We thank God for the message, it was a message of love.” he said.
Earlier, the Regional Secretary, Palace Chapter South East Region of the fellowship, Dr. Obiora Ogbodo, said the purpose of the meeting was to encourage Royal Fathers to establish a chapter of the fellowship in their palaces.
“In palace chapters of the FGBMFI our target is to reach out to the royal fathers, communities and kingdoms, what we are trying to make sure is that they (royal fathers) inculcate the discipline and lifestyle of Jesus and emulate Jesus in their palaces and our communities thereby bringing good morales that will affect families, homes and society at large.”
The Royal Fathers Banquet is part of the 2024 national convention of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International with the theme, “I Come Quickly With My Reward.”
