In a move that has sent shockwaves through one of the political parties in Nigeria and left many of its members disenchanted regarding the party’s crises, the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), through the Acting Deputy National Chairman, Chief Felix Chukwurah, has officially disclosed that peace, equity, and progress are the strong pillars upon which NNPP was founded.

Chief Chukwurah, while addressing the press during the NNPP Southeast conference held recently in Awka, commended Dr. Boniface Aniebonam for his dedication to the party. He emphasized that the party was founded and funded over two years ago with the primary goal of providing services that promote peace and good leadership in the country, not war or conflict.

He stated, “The conference serves as a platform to introduce the newly appointed Acting State Chairman to the zonal authority, address the challenges faced by NNPP, and assure the Southeast members that the old NNPP structure remains intact, despite the attempts by new entrants with malicious intentions to wrest control of the party.”

Chief Chukwurah emphasized that, “Our party NNPP is not immune to party quagmires, but the uniqueness of our situation demands decisive action to resist obvious manipulation. We have faced a situation where the party constitution was grossly violated and abandoned for a fresh one under the guise of amendment by recent entrants, aiming to hijack the party founded and nurtured twenty-two years ago by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam and supported by other pioneer members.”

According to Chief Chukwurah, the party is currently facing crises caused by prominent individuals in the country. He stated that the party aimed to address internal issues and strengthen its position in Nigerian politics in preparation for upcoming elections. He also affirmed that the party would win the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Imo and Anambra states.

He commended the efforts of the National Working Committee (NWC) members, led by Dr. Agbo Major, in maintaining the party’s grassroots support and expanding its national presence. Chief Chukwurah disclosed that, “The NWC was manipulated by a few new persons, including the former governor of Kano state and Minister of Defence, Mohammed Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and his team, who conducted meetings in private houses to facilitate selfish and unpopular decisions detrimental to the party’s image.”

Chief Chukwurah conveyed a message of assurance to the party members, urging solidarity with the founders of NNPP and encouraging them to continue their efforts in upholding the party’s values.

The Acting NNPP Chairman of Anambra State, Igweamaka Orajuba, and his counterpart from Ebonyi, Hon Ozeogu Stephen, expressed gratitude for being present at the event. They described the founder of the party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, as a rare gift to humanity and emphasized the need for the Southeast members to work towards peace, not war. They urged party members to view this period as an opportunity to enhance the credibility of NNPP.

The highlight of the event was the party members passing a vote of no confidence in Mohammed Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso. The motion was moved by the Acting State Chairman of Abia State NNPP, Prince Kelech Apugo, and Chuba Nwadiogbu, Acting Enugu State Chairman of NNPP. The party also passed a vote reaffirming the dissolution of Kawu Ali-led NWC and the expulsion of Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiya support group. This motion was moved by Hon Chief Ozeogu Stephen, Acting Ebonyi State Chairman of NNPP, and Hon Nnani Nnaemeka Emmanuel, Acting State Publicity Secretary of Imo State.
The event was attended by stakeholders and state executives from Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Anambra.
