The Enugu State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms, ammunition, and other exhibits during separate tactical operations across the state.

Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe disclosed this in a statement on Saturday night, noting that the arrests were made between October 20 and 29, 2025, as part of sustained efforts to curb violent crimes and ensure public safety.

According to the statement, operatives of the Distress Response Squad (DRS), on October 29, intercepted a shuttle bus along the Enugu–Abakaliki Road and arrested one Odoh Joel (25), who was found in possession of a cut-to-size locally made single-barrel gun. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was travelling from Awka, Anambra State.

In a related development, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Orugbala Tochukwu (26) at New Garriki by Ukwu-Achara, Enugu, on October 28. A locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition was recovered from him.

Earlier on October 20, police operatives working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch raided a black spot at Amechi-Awkunanaw, Enugu, and arrested three suspects — Friday Obasi (35), Offiah Ndubuisi (39), and Onyebuchi Udenze (45). Six live cartridges were also recovered during the operation.

Ndukwe said all the suspects will be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commended the operatives for their dedication and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime, especially during the ‘Ember’ months and the forthcoming festive season.
