NUJ To Honour Enugu Governor With Icon of Democracy Award

The Enugu State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), will on Friday, December 6, 2024 honour Governor Peter Mbah, with the NUJ Icon of Democracy Awrad as this year’s press week of the Union gets underway.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in the State, Comrade Sam Udekwe, announced this in Enugu on Monday while interacting with newsmen.

The press week commenced with a lecture delivered by a former Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on economic matters and erudite scholar, Prof Osita Ogbu, with the Theme: “Journalism in a Developing Economy: The Dignity of Professional Practice”,

The NUJ Chairman explained that the award was in recognition of the various innovative approaches that Gov. Mbah has brought into governance, confirming that democracy works when visionary leaders are in charge.

According to Comrade Udekwe, the projects carried out by the Governor and the various disruptive processes across infrastructure development, agriculture, health, education, provision of potable water, civil servants welfare, internal revenue generation, energy, attraction of foreign direct investors and many others, are positively touching the lives of Enugu people. These, he said, are democracy in action.

The chairman pledged that the NUJ would continue to be committed in supporting the government through its vibrant and professional journalists and media practitioners who constitute her members, to amplify the achievements of Governor Mbah through radio, television, blogs, social media and other media channels used by members of the union to tell the world about the innovative approach in governance experienced in Enugu State.

He said, “Your Excellency, on behalf of the entire journalists practicing in Enugu State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State Chapter, congratulates you on the milestone achievements you have recorded in less than two years of your administration”.

“Indeed the 2024 NUJ Enugu Press Week is dedicated to highlighting your numerous achievements. The series of events of the Press Week include Press Conferences, Health Checks, Press Walk and Convention. It will culminate to a grand finale on the 6th of December, 2024 with an award day that will bring deserving awardees all over the country for recognition.”
