Hotel Owner And Military Personnel ‘Torture Staff To Death’ Over Phone Theft In Imo

Ebuka Nwaneri, a man from Umulogho community in Obowo LGA, Imo State, reportedly died after being allegedly beaten by a hotel owner and military personnel over a missing phone.

Nwaneri, who worked at the hotel, was accused of stealing a phone belonging to a military guest at the establishment. Subsequently, he was tortured and locked up in the hotel’s powerhouse, where he passed away.

Following the incident, youths in the community staged a protest demanding justice for Nwaneri and threatened to dismantle the hotel if those responsible for his death were not apprehended.

The Imo State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed that the matter is under investigation and urged the victim or anyone with information to contact the police.

Meanwhile, some youths were arrested during the protest. The president of the Umulogho Youth Assembly, Chinagorom Cyriacus, called for peace and assured that the arrested individuals would be released.

Cyriacus also condemned the murder and assured that efforts were being made to ensure that the perpetrators face justice. He urged the community to remain calm and not take matters into their own hands while seeking justice for Nwaneri.
