The attention of the Enugu South Local Government Council has been drawn to a misleading video currently circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the pedestrian bridge at Garriki along Agbani Road has collapsed.

The Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Hon. Caleb Ani, hereby debunks this unfounded claim in its entirety. He clarified that the pedestrian bridge in question was constructed in the year 2020 by the previous administration. During its construction, the engineers encountered certain structural challenges, which were swiftly addressed and corrected. The bridge was subsequently reconstructed and reinforced to meet the required safety standards.

As it stands, the pedestrian bridge remains very strong, intact, and continues to serve the general public effectively. No part of the bridge has collapsed, and no such incident has occurred anywhere in Enugu South Local Government Area.

Hon. Caleb Ani described the trending video as the handiwork of mischief-makers and enemies of good governance—individuals who are bent on discrediting the progress and developmental strides being recorded under the current administration. He urged members of the public to disregard such falsehoods and not allow themselves to be misled by those who do not wish the government or the people well.

The Chairman also took the opportunity to express profound gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his commitment to infrastructural development and people-oriented projects. According to Hon. Ani, the people of Enugu South are already reaping the benefits of the Governor’s unprecedented achievements within the council area.

He further reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm, and urged those who use the pedestrian bridge to go about their daily activities without fear.

Finally, the Council warns those peddling such false and dangerous information to desist immediately, as such actions are not only misleading but also capable of inciting unnecessary panic among citizens.

Hon. Caleb Onyema Ani
