The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State Command, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has described the rerun elections that took place on February 3, 2024, in Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency and Enugu South 1 State Constituency of Enugu State as peaceful.

CP’s assessment is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Enugu by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe.

According to CP, regardless of the eventual suspension of that of Enugu South 1 State Constituency due to the non-availability of INEC’s original results sheets for the voters’ inspection before the commencement of voting, the election was generally peaceful.

The CP made this known after leading heads of other security agencies in Enugu State to monitor and supervise the rerun elections in Enugu South 1 State Constituency, before it was eventually suspended, and that of Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, which ran its full course.

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Police and other security personnel involved in the election security management. He, therefore, appreciates their resilience and diligence, which he said made the peaceful and successful conduct of the exercise possible.

The Commissioner also appreciates citizens of the State, particularly the electorate and residents in the areas of the rerun elections, for largely conducting themselves responsibly.
