The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in November 8 Anambra governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma has decried the state’s significant dropped in education rating.
His comment followed the report that in the 2024 NECO examinations, Anambra State did not make the top 12 performing states, which has led to criticism and discussion, particularly regarding its performance under Governor Charles Soludo.
Anambra was previously known for its strong academic performance.
Reacting to the development in a statement, Chukwuma regretted that Anambra, now comes behind Abia, Imo and Ebonyi States in terms of students’ performance.
He lamented that students performance in national examinations has not been so bad as being witnessed under the current Anambra State Government.
“Once the leading light in education for over a decade, the current administration in Anambra State has caused this gain to wither. Today, Anambra State has significantly dropped in education rating, much so that our state now comes behind Abia, Imo and Ebonyi States in terms of students’ performance”, he said.
He declared, “Under the current Anambra State Government, we have witnessed such a decline to the extent that Anambra State was unable to feature in both regional and national lists of top states with students who made five credits in their senior certificate examination. It has never been this bad in over a decade. This is a promise broken into pieces. A gain now lost. For us as a people, it is a dangerous signal for our State and the future of our kids.”
The philanthropist noted that there has been decline in some key indicators of development in the state.
However, Chukwuma asured that the Young Progressive Party, YPP, is determined to put Anambra State on the path of sustained progress.
According to him, with his New Anambra Agenda, the state shall be rebuilt and put on the path of sustained progress.
