The candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the November 8, 2025 Anambra state governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, yesterday, joined hundreds of youths in protests over insecurity as well as the rascality and brute operations of the state security outfit, Agunaechemba.
The peaceful protest followed the recent assault and dehumanisation of a Corps member, Jennifer Elohor, a Zoology graduate from Delta State University, Abraka, by operatives of Agunechemba in Oba, Idemmili South Local Government Area of the state.
The protesters under the aegis of
Make Anambra Great Again (MAGA), traversed through Aroma junction, High tension road and Zik’s Avenue, and ended up at the police command headquarters, Amawbia, where they submitted their concerns over the human rights violations, assaults, harassment, intimidation, extortion and other excesses of the operatives of Agunechemba.
Carrying placards with inscriptions like, “Anambra state government stop treating ndi Anambra like animals”, “RIP to friends that never got the chance to grow old with us”, .
“Our governor is protected by the DSS and the police. Ndi Anambra are left at the mercy of udogachi and Agunechemba”, the protesters demanded the disbandment of the security outfit, which has derailed from its original mandate.
Addressing the protesters at the Police command headquarters, Amawbia, Sir Chukwuma said he and his running mate, Uzu Okagbue joined the protest because the demands of the group, which are basically about dealing with insecurity and addressing the excesses of Agunechemba, aligned with his desire for a better Anambra.

Sir Chukwuma addressing the protesters at the Police command headquarters, Amawbia.
“The organisation called MAGA embarked on a peaceful walk as a way of expressing the ills that we are currently being faced with in Anambra State. These ills have to do essentially with the level of insecurity, the level of rascality, and the level of criminality that has received the state government endorsement. As a concerned Anambra, I felt this aligns with my position on what is going on in Anambra State and that’s why I had to join in this peaceful walk to come to the commission of police to lay our complaint.”
He noted that the high handedness and criminal like operations of Agunechemba operatives have become excessive and need to be looked into by the police authorities.

Sir Chukwuma during the protest
The YPP governorship candidate, lamented that the operatives now operate like emperors, perpetuating illegalities, molestation and unleashing terror on the residents of Anambra state, citing the recent condemnable assault and dehumanisation of a Corps member in Oba.
According to him, the psychic of the operatives of Agunaechemba needs to be revaluated, while they should be retrained and made to work under the instructions and maximum supervisor of the police.
Chukwuma noted that the police assurance that it was looking into the assault of Corps members in Oba and the excesses of Agunechemba was comforting.
” That automatically tells us that the psyche of these guys needs to be re-evaluated. And the police assured us that the suspects were actually arrested and they are still in custody and investigation is going on. And they also promised us that they would also make public the outcome of the investigation”, he said.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel, who addressed the protesters, commended them for conducting themselves peacefully, adding that their complaints had been noted.
While noting that the local security outfit was established to support the police in community policing, DCP Ezekiel stated that the police was not ignorant of their excesses.
He stated that the Commissioner of police, Ikioye Orutugu had organised training for the operatives of Agunechemba in a bid to make their operations better.
Ezekiel confirmed that those who assaulted the corps member were already in police custody while the CID had take over the investigation.
