Enugu—A US based Nigerian woman, Evangelist Catherine Agada, at the weekend launched a non-governmental organisation (NGO) to empower Enugu women with skill acquisition.

Evangelist Agada used the launch of the NGO to close her three -Day programme where she fed women and other participants with word of God and also shared bags of rice to them as well as Bibles.

Launching the NGO, Initiative For Hope and Empowerment (IFHE) in Enugu, Agada said the NGO was being sponsored by her ministry, Daughters of the King Ministries, International, USA.

She explained that the initiative, informed by the passion to give back to the society, was aimed at lifting Nigerians, particularly the less privileged people, including women, widows and Children in communities, out of poverty.

Evangelist Agada said: “It is an initiative that I started gradually in a smaller scale working with my Nigerian coordinator, Ms. Ekezie and the ministry had done many outride in Enugu prior to today, to the orphanages, disabled, prisoners as well as hospitals.

“Only last year, after financially being prepared to lunch IFHE fully, which was registered and here we are for the inaugural,” she said.

Agada who hailed from Abor in Udi Council Area of Enugu State added that the NGO would partner organisations helping women and girls to acquire quality education, improve job skills or gain other opportunities to change their lives.

“IFHE has currently partnered with Ofuobi Vocational Training Center, Enugu and will be awarding 30 needy women from different backgrounds scholarship to be trained in fashion and designing, beauty and make-up and computer skills.

“As we grow, we will also partner with ministries that care for the poor and the disabled to alleviate hunger and hardship,” Agada remarked.

The evangelist explained that their signature and long term goals would be to empower rural women through micro financing of small loans with no interest to help them start hawking and petty trading.

According to Evangelist Agad, IFHE will provide seminars and workshops that will improve mindset, better hygiene, health, family nutrition and value driven life-style changes.

In an address, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, said the state government would partner individuals and Organisations like IFHE to eradicate poverty in the state.

While extolling Agada for coming home to help poor women in the state, the Commissioner said the women need mental empowerment to be able to utilize and multiply whatever amount given to them.

Enih said, “you can give one N20,000 and she will multiply it while some will squander it since the amount looks small for them.”

She appealed to the women to utilize the opportunity by being productive to enable Agada’s investment not to be in vain as well as chosing a skill they love best to sustain the programme.

She assured her of government’s support and partnership in any way she would want them to come in.

In his remark, a former Enugu Commissioner for Transport and Environment, Mr. John Egbo, described Agada as a kind-hearted woman and a true daughter of Enugu soil.

“She is the author of three Christian books, a speaker and a mentor,” he said.
