Time to End the Propaganda, Ndi Anambra Deserve Better

Published

on

As Anambra prepares for yet another crucial gubernatorial election, it’s important we pause, reflect, and ask ourselves some hard questions. Are we truly better off today than we were years ago? Has the current government, under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), delivered on its lofty promises? Or have we, once again, been taken for a ride by sweet-talking politicians who hide failure behind slogans and half-truths?

Let’s be honest. APGA has mastered the art of propaganda. They know how to spin stories, stage ribbon-cuttings, and throw around catchphrases that sound good on radio jingles. But beyond the noise and fanfare, Ndi Anambra know the truth, we feel it in the bad roads, the unreliable healthcare, the insecurity that keeps us awake at night, and the lack of meaningful opportunities for our youth. It’s not about sentiments anymore; it’s about results. And the results are simply not there.

Now, more than ever, our dear state needs a shift. A real shift. Not cosmetic changes or repackaged old promises, but a fundamental change in how we are governed. That change won’t come from APGA. It has to come from a party that understands what real governance looks like and has the backing to deliver it. That party is the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Some might raise eyebrows at the idea of bringing APC into the state. But let’s be practical. APC is the ruling party at the national level. That means Anambra, under APC leadership, can finally unlock the federal support we’ve been missing out on. No more working in isolation. No more begging Abuja for projects that should be our right. With APC in Awka, there’s a direct line to federal funding, infrastructure, and programs. It’s about joining the table, not watching from the window.

Think about the industries that can spring up if we finally have a government that’s aligned with the centre. Think about the youth empowerment schemes, the business support, the security apparatus that can be deployed because there’s no political red tape. These are not theories; they are possibilities.

Let’s not forget security. This is one of the most pressing issues facing the state. We’ve watched in frustration as cult violence, and general lawlessness spread across communities, while the state government appears either overwhelmed or uninterested. APGA has shown us that it cannot secure Anambra. Simple. We can’t afford to keep gambling with our lives and hoping things will get better with more of the same.

APC has the means and the muscle to turn this around. With stronger collaboration between the federal government and the state, security forces can be better equipped and better coordinated. We need leaders who don’t just issue statements after the fact, but who can prevent chaos in the first place.

And let’s talk economics. Every election season, we hear about “empowering the youth,” but where are the jobs? Where are the investments? Where is the roadmap? APGA has fed us with slogans but left us with empty pockets. Anambra is full of talented, enterprising young people but most of them are stuck in limbo or planning their exit from the state. That has to change.

The APC has a real plan, one that isn’t just written to impress but built to work. From agriculture to technology, manufacturing to export, there are viable strategies to stimulate the economy, attract investors, and put Anambra on the path to real prosperity. It’s time we started looking at governance through the lens of performance, not party loyalty or empty nostalgia.

Let’s also address the idea that APGA somehow represents our identity as Ndigbo. That narrative has been weaponised for far too long. Identity is important, but it should never be used to guilt people into accepting failure. If APGA truly cared about Igbo pride, they would have led Anambra to become the model state in Nigeria. Instead, they’ve clung to that sentiment while under-delivering year after year. Pride without performance is just noise.

Ndi Anambra, the decision before us is simple, even if it isn’t easy. We can choose to remain trapped in a cycle of promises and propaganda, or we can choose a party that is positioned to deliver. This election isn’t about APC versus APGA, it’s about results versus rhetoric.

Anambra needs a government that works, not one that talks. The time to make that choice is now. Let’s vote out the slogans and vote in the competence. Let’s choose progress over propaganda.

It’s time.
