A dangerous storm is quietly brewing in the heart of Nkpor Central Motor Park, Idemili North LGA, Anambra State, a conflict that now threatens to spiral into full-blown violence if left unchecked.

Recall that this journalist had earlier made countable reports of the disagreement regards ownership and management of the park.

At the center of the tension is a bitter revenue collection dispute; a showdown allegedly fuelled by political interests, intra-government wrangling, and calculated attempts to undermine the current administration of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

According to sources close to the matter, top government officials including the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. (Mrs.) Patricia Igwebuike, the Executive Director (Assessment) of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), Mr. Benjamin Okafor, and the AIRS Chairman, Dr. Greg Ezeilo—are facing accusations of manipulating the system for political gain.

There are allegations that these figures may be supporting a faction of Nkpor youths and disgruntled revenue agents in a plot to destabilize the peaceful revenue structure currently in place at the park, spearheaded by revenue manager Afam Uzoegwu.

Over the weekend, when a clandestine meeting reportedly took place at a hotel in Nkpor Agu, situations went sour. The meeting allegedly brought together opposition politicians and selected Nkpor youth leaders, with an agenda: to unseat Afam Uzoegwu and take back control of revenue operations.

Our sources say the youths are being strategically recruited, some of them allegedly touts, to resume operations by October 1st, 2025, regardless of the state’s current arrangements.

These actors are said to be angered by their exclusion from the present revenue structure and are now vowing to recover “lost income” by any means necessary including use of force.

Residents are now calling on the Anambra State Government and security agencies to move swiftly to quell any threats before they escalate into violence or bloodshed.

A concerned commuter, who pleaded anonymity, told this reporter:

“We’ve seen peace here under this new revenue setup. Now, some boys want to take us back to the old days of intimidation and extortion. The government must not allow it.”

Attempts to reach Afam Uzoegwu were unsuccessful, as calls to his known phone numbers were unanswered at press time.

However, Obinna Uzoegwu Obima, an alleged opposition figure accused of backing the youth revolt, initially resisted media inquiries, warning against publicizing his name. He later softened his tone, stating that the matter is under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner for Transport and the DG of AIRS.

Repeated efforts to get comments from Hon. Patricia Igwebuike, Mr. Okafor, and Dr. Ezeilo also proved futile, as their contact information was not immediately accessible.
