Suspended Catholic Priest Did Wedding Publicly, Requested Resignation Earlier – Fr Kelvin Ugwu

Contrary to reports making the rounds, a Catholic missionary priest working in Gambia, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has revealed that the suspended priest, Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe, had his wedding publicly.

Reports emerged on Sunday that the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Delta State, suspended Fr. Oghenerukevwe from priestly duties following his secret wedding in the United States of America, USA.

Reacting, Fr. Kelvin, in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, said the marriage was “publicly done,” stressing that the embattled priest requested resignation from the Catholic priesthood.

He wrote, “In fairness to Fr. Daniel Oghenerukevwe, he did not secretly get married; it was publicly done. So, I say again, be careful of some of the headlines you will be reading on this issue.

“The suspended priest in question had earlier expressed his intentions to leave the Catholic priesthood.”

Fr. Kelvin clarified that the only contending issue with the marriage was that “he was not patient for the process, which he had already initiated, to be concluded before going ahead to wed his lover, Dora Chichah.”

According to Kelvin, “No one is forced to be a priest. And even as a priest, if at any time you feel you can’t continue, there are procedures you will follow to be laicized.”
