An alleged attempted assassination of APC governorship candidate Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu last night in Abuja has triggered widespread outrage and deepened concerns about the rising tide of political violence linked to the Anambra State Government.

According to eyewitness reports, the attack occurred at the premises of the Hilton Hotel in Abuja, where a group of about ten armed men tried to confront and forcibly take away the APC candidate under questionable circumstances.

This shocking development which occurred in the nation’s capital miles faraway from Anambra has now drawn the condemnation of the Sustenance of Faith in Good Governance (SOFIG), a leading civil society organization advocating for peace and accountability in governance.

According to reliable reports, sources close to Ukachukwu say the APC flagbearer had just stepped out of a private meeting when the hoodlums blocked his path, demanding he follow them to discuss a supposed “business transaction.”

Despite not recognizing any of the individuals and maintaining that he owed no one, Ukachukwu reportedly responded with calm and requested they schedule an official meeting. But the men escalated the situation, allegedly attempting to force him into a car at gunpoint. But for the intervention and response of his security team that the incident did not end in tragedy.

Within minutes of the confrontation, videos and photos of the encounter appeared on social media, allegedly pushed by APGA loyalists including Anambra’s Commissioner for Information, Barr. Law Mefor, and a political ally, Mazi Ejimofor Opara.

SOFIG has described this as premeditated propaganda, citing the use of planted cameras and a coordinated digital smear campaign intended to twist the narrative against the APC candidate.

SOFIG’s Director of Strategy and Mobilization, Dr. Janet Maduka, questions how a governor “sleeps at night” while such violent acts are allegedly carried out under his watch and now, even exported to Abuja.

“Why has gun violence, bitter thuggery, kidnapping, and bloodshed suddenly become Anambra’s new normal?” Dr. Maduka asked.

She further alleged that Soludo’s allies now act like they’re above the law, emboldened by power and manipulations.

For months, civil society groups and political watchers have raised concerns about the increasing political violence and lawlessness in Anambra State under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

On that note, SOFIG has Anambra citizens, especially the voters are hereby urged to vote him out on Nov 8 , 2025.

“Cast out Prof Chukwuma Soludo and his political minions into the outer darkness and rather elect Ukachukwu/Ekwunife to take over and rescue Anambra State from this decay. A stitch in time, saves nine,” SOFIG declares.
