Five members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Enugu State, and one from the Labour Party (LP) representing Plateau State, on Thursday announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Their letters of defection, read during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, cited internal crises and irreconcilable divisions within their former parties as the major reasons for their decision.

Welcoming the new members, Speaker Tajudeen assured them that the APC was a broad-based political platform capable of accommodating all shades of interests and committed to national development.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, who represents Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency of Enugu State, said the lawmakers’ move was aimed at ensuring greater collaboration with the Federal Government to facilitate the development of their constituencies and support Governor Peter Mbah’s transformation agenda in Enugu State.

The defectors from Enugu State include:

Hon. Nnolim Nnaji (Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency)

Hon. Martins Oke (Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency)

Hon. Nnamdi Agbo (Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency)

Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu (Aninri/Agwu/Oji River Federal Constituency)

Hon. Chidi Obeta (Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency)

Also joining the ruling party was Hon. Daniel Asama, representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency of Plateau State, who defected from the Labour Party to the APC.

The development further strengthens the ruling party’s presence in the House of Representatives and signals deepening political realignments across party lines ahead of future elections.
