Security Expert, Egbo To Speak At Enugu USA Convention

Former commissioner for Transport and Capital Territory Development in Enugu State, Dr. John Egbo, is set to deliver the keynote address at the Enugu USA Convention, scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, United States.

Enugu USA is an umbrella association of Enugu people in the United States of America.

Egbo will, at the convention, speak on the theme, ‘Building Enugu USA Headquarters for Youth Empowerment, Skill Acquisition, Healthcare Delivery and Other Community Development Programme.’

His speech is expected to put on the spot light, the significance of the Project and its potential to youth empowerment, skill acquisition, and enhanced healthcare delivery in Enugu.

This, no doubt, would complement the good work of the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr Peter Mbah, who is silently transforming the State.

Egbo, a retired Deputy Sheriff in the United States, will be sharing his intellectual depth in development, security and how it would impact Enugu’s development.

As an advocate of change, Egbo made a significant impact in both Nigeria as the author of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority under Governor Sullivan Chime’s Administration.

He became the first commissioner of the Authority, in addition to Transport and later Environment. “Enugu ha abu obodo oyibo” mantra became as the offices he held helped in transforming the Coal City from a modern suburb to European city.

The former commissioner ensured that taxicabs were GPS tracked, waste disposal was excellent with new compactor trucks, motorized road sweepers, traffic lights with security cameras(CCTV) as well as installed bus shelters with solar lights to provide shelter for pedestrians, road users and fight crimes.

He ended parking of vehicles on dual carriage ways with excellent road traffic flow and enforcement as well as planted majority of trees on dual carriage roads of the coal to fight ozone layer depletion.

Egbo as Commissioner for Environment was instrumental in saving the Okpara Square Forest which had been allocated to an agency for a building, today the forest remains a landmark and home to the Unity Park.

The street name signages and directional road signs in the Coal city which were picked up by google map were some of his legacies as a commissioner

Others are new luxury buses that eased conveyance of citizenry that was free for students, the Big Ben clock at the old Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly in the Secretariat was repaired and chiming aloud, while security in the city was top notch.

Egbo relocated the Mayor Market to Idaw River layout off Emeka Ebila street which had now returned to Agbani road and posing danger to human traffic.

These developments were instrumental in Rockefeller Foundation listing Enugu as one of the world’s “100 resilient cities”.

Egbo’s leadership credentials was more evident in diaspora where he retired as a Deputy Sheriff and served as the President of Enugu USA. He was the founder, Enugu USA Medical Mission Programme that had continued to treat people in Enugu State since 2002.

His dedication to enriching the lives of others is evident in his various roles, as he has consistently demonstrated excellence and served as a model for others to follow.

Egbo’s achievements and accomplishments are a testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
