Enugu South—In a significant move towards enhancing infrastructure and safety, the Enugu South Local Government Area has taken delivery of 60 units of 500-watt solar-powered streetlights.

The delivery, made at the Council Secretariat on Tuesday is part of the ongoing “Light Up the Council” initiative championed by the Council Chairman, Hon. Calab Ani.

The streetlight project, which began with the installation of lights at the Council Secretariat, is widely regarded as a symbolic achievement of Hon. Ani’s administration.

According to the Chairman, the initiative goes beyond physical illumination, representing hope, security, and development for the people of Enugu South.

Speaking while receiving the solar units, the Council Chairman, Ani expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and reiterated his administration’s commitment to extending the lighting project to all corners of the local government. He also charged the contractor handling the project to ensure quality service and timely delivery.

“This programme is very close to my heart,” Hon. Ani stated. “We are not just installing lights; we are lighting the way to progress and ensuring our communities feel safe, seen, and valued.”

The Chairman expressed optimism that the newly delivered units would cover the remaining areas within the council, bringing the project closer to full completion.

He noted that once installation is finalized, the Community will take on a new and improved appearance, reflective of the administration’s development-driven vision.

The solar streetlight project is expected to improve visibility, boost economic activities at night, and enhance the overall security of residents in Enugu South.
