The Enugu State Police Command has recorded fresh successes in its ongoing crackdown on vehicle theft, recovering two stolen vehicles and arresting six suspects in separate operations across the state.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe in Enugu said operatives attached to the New Haven Police Division recovered a stolen Mitsubishi L300 bus on January 8, 2026, at about 12:30 p.m. within the Ogui area of Enugu, following actionable intelligence.
The vehicle had reportedly been stolen from where it was parked in New Haven on December 31, 2025.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with the theft. They were identified as Hassan Sheyu (29), Bashiru Yusuf (37), Alago Yusuf (30) and Idris Abisolamu (28).
The police also arrested a receiver of stolen property, Nwanneka Isiugwu, who reportedly confessed to purchasing the vehicle from the suspects for ₦1.7 million.
In a related development, operatives of the Udenu Police Division, acting on a tip-off and with the support of members of the public, arrested a 27-year-old man, Friday Onuh, at Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area on January 7, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m. A Toyota Camry 2.4, suspected to be stolen, was recovered from him.
According to the police, the suspect confessed that he was a mechanic and that the vehicle had been entrusted to him for repairs by its owner in Victoria Island, Lagos. He, however, absconded with the vehicle before his arrest.
The owner was subsequently contacted and confirmed the theft, noting that efforts to trace the suspect and recover the car had been unsuccessful until the police intervention.
The Command said investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon their conclusion, while efforts had been intensified to apprehend other fleeing accomplices.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
He urged vehicle owners to adopt proactive security measures, including the installation of tracking devices, steering and pedal locks, and other anti-theft mechanisms.
He also advised members of the public to exercise caution and due diligence when entrusting their vehicles to others for repairs or related purposes.
