The Police in Enugu State say they have recovered a MAN Diesel truck stolen earlier on Monday from Benin City, Edo State.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the truck was stolen around 12:05 a.m. in Benin City but was recovered at about 6:30 a.m. the same day by operatives attached to Ozalla Division and the Distress Response Squad (DRS).
The recovery took place at Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area, along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, following swift action based on distress information from the Command’s Control Room that the stolen vehicle was heading toward the area.
On sighting the police, the suspects reportedly abandoned the truck and fled into the bush. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing interstate suspects, while the recovered vehicle has been secured for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their prompt and coordinated response, reiterating the Command’s commitment to proactive policing.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or security-related incidents to the nearest police station or through the Command’s hotlines: 08032003702, 08086671202, or the State Command-and-Control Centre via 112, 09134666668, and 09134448093.
