Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested three young men for allegedly stealing and vandalising a commercial tricycle in Enugu.
The suspects, Chuka Nwanze (23), Arinze Anyansi (24) and Miracle Anyadiegwu (24) were apprehended on January 20, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. in the Ugbodogwu area of Trans-Ekulu.
Their arrest followed intelligence reports that they were attempting to sell a suspected stolen tricycle.
Police operatives attached to the Trans-Ekulu Division, working in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, recovered the yellow-and-black Bajaj tricycle from the suspects.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects confessed during interrogation that they stole the tricycle, bearing Bauchi registration number NNG 445 WZ, from where it was parked in the Obiagu area of Enugu on the night of January 19.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects admitted to vandalising the vehicle and selling its three tyres before their arrest, while attempting to dispose of other parts.
Ndukwe said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected tricycle theft syndicate and recover additional exhibits.
He noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has advised vehicle owners to be vigilant and install basic security features in their vehicles to help deter theft and facilitate recovery in case of loss.
