Former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has mourned the death of Arise News Anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, describing it as a painful national loss.
In a post on his official Facebook handle, Obi said he had just returned from the United Kingdom, where he held several engagements, including a meeting with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, before travelling to Agulu, Anambra State, to attend the late journalist’s burial Mass and interment.
He described Somtochukwu as “a shining example of youthful resourcefulness and dedication,” whose passion for truth and commitment to journalism symbolized the immense potential of Nigerian youth when given the right environment to thrive.

Obi expressed deep sorrow over her tragic death following an armed robbery attack in Abuja, noting that losing such a bright talent to insecurity was “not only a personal tragedy but a national loss.”

He prayed for the repose of her soul and for God to comfort her family, saying:
“May the gentle soul of Somtochukwu Maduagwu rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. Amen.”
