Over 8 Million Nigerians Complete Pre-Online Voter Registration – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than eight million Nigerians have completed the pre-online registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The commission disclosed this in its Week 9 update released in Abuja, noting that 1.7 million Nigerians have successfully completed both their online and physical registration processes across the country.

According to INEC, a total of 8,003,196 citizens participated in the online pre-registration phase. Imo State topped the list with 826,850 registrants (10.32%), followed by Lagos State with 604,619 (7.56%), and Ogun State with 510,062 (6.37%).

At the other end of the scale, Yobe State recorded the lowest figure with 2,714 registrants (0.03%), while the exercise in Anambra State remains suspended in accordance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, pending the conclusion of the November 8 governorship election in the state.

A demographic breakdown shows that female registrants slightly outnumbered males, with 4,190,890 (52.37%) compared to 3,812,306 (47.63%).

The youth category (18–34 years) dominated the registration, accounting for 5,533,514 (69.14%), followed by the middle-aged group (35–49 years) with 1,678,212 (20.97%), and the elderly (50–69 years) with 704,866 (8.81%).

By occupation, students made up the largest group with 2,018,967 (25.23%), followed by businesspersons with 1,659,690 (20.74%), while Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) constituted 182,718 (2.29%) of the total online registrants.

On the completed registration figures for Week 8, INEC said the 1.7 million total represents those who successfully finalized both online pre-registration and physical capture at designated centers.

Of this number, 956,566 concluded their registration online, while 753,884 completed in-person registration.

Further analysis shows that youths (18–34 years) accounted for 73.74% of completed registrations, representing 1,261,288 individuals. Females made up 55.27% (945,305), while males accounted for 44.73% (765,145). PWDs totaled 24,207 (1.41%).

In terms of occupation, students led again with 566,391 (33.11%), followed by businesspersons with 316,295 (18.49%), and housewives with 259,932 (15.28%).

A state-by-state analysis showed that Osun, Lagos, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) topped the chart for overall completed registrations. Osun State recorded the highest number with 151,593, followed by the FCT (106,855) and Lagos (85,831). Other high-performing states include Kano (96,280), Imo (90,469), and Rivers (28,507).

INEC reiterated that these figures remain provisional, pending data cleaning through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to eliminate multiple or invalid registrations.

The commission urged all eligible Nigerians yet to register to visit the official portals — https://cvr.inec.gov.ng or https://cvr.inecnigeria.org — or proceed to the nearest registration centre.
