Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Peter Obi, has donated a total of ₦15 million to two institutions owned by the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi (ADON) to support the improvement of their facilities.

Obi, who made the donation during a visit to the institutions, said that each time he visits faith-based establishments and witnesses their efforts at improving lives, he is reminded that the Church is stepping in because of the failure of government to adequately provide for the people.

He donated ₦10 million to the ADON College of Health Technology, Nnewi, and ₦5 million to the ADON Vocational and Technical Academy, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area. According to him, the funds are meant to help the institutions upgrade their facilities in whatever areas they consider most necessary.

Obi explained that his continuous support for such institutions is driven by the need to encourage organizations that are filling the gaps created by government shortcomings. He noted that most of the services being rendered by these institutions are primary responsibilities of government, yet faith-based bodies have taken it upon themselves to serve the people.

He said, “I was here last year, and I recall that the cheque you received then was to fulfil my pledge for the previous year. I am here again to present a cheque of ₦10 million for this year. Students are our youths, and they form the foundation for the better country we all hope for. We must therefore support the institutions that are moulding them into what we want them to become.

“Ours is to continue to show appreciation for the great work the diocese is doing. We need to pray for them so they will keep doing well. They are doing what we politicians and our government should be doing, and that is why they deserve our prayers and support.

“Your training is very important, and the institution training you today is shaping your future. We know that the training you are receiving here is impactful, and that is why we are here to support them.”

At the ADON Vocational and Technical Academy, Ozubulu, Obi also inspected the facilities before presenting a cheque of ₦5 million to the rector of the institution, Rev. Engr. Prince Igwe, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening institutions that are contributing meaningfully to human development.
