The Nsukka Youth General Assembly (NYGA) has passed a vote of no confidence on Comrade Clinton Ogbonna following an emergency executive meeting convened to address a protest he reportedly staged against the Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area.
The Assembly said the demonstration was carried out without its authorization and did not reflect the collective position of the youth body.
Presiding over the meeting, Vice President Comrade Eze Juliet Adaeze described the protest as “personal, self-driven, and entirely outside the knowledge and approval of the NYGA leadership.” She added that no organ of the organisation was consulted or involved in planning the demonstration.
In a statement, the NYGA reaffirmed its identity as a non-political, development-oriented, and peace-driven youth organisation guided strictly by constitutional values of dialogue, unity, and constructive engagement. The Assembly condemned attempts by individuals to drag the NYGA into personal or partisan conflicts capable of disrupting community peace.
Citing a series of internal concerns, including Ogbonna’s failure to convene mandatory meetings, unauthorized decisions taken without executive approval, the opening of an account in the Assembly’s name, and actions deemed capable of creating tension, the NYGA declared a vote of no confidence in him. The Assembly announced his immediate removal from every role or representation within the body.
The NYGA further directed Comrade Ogbonna to cease presenting himself as President and mandated him to return all documents and properties belonging to the organisation within 72 hours to the Secretariat under the office of the Secretary General.
Beyond internal resolutions, the Assembly acknowledged the developmental efforts of the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, particularly in the Nsukka zone. The executives commended the governor’s leadership and called for increased youth inclusion in governance, expanded empowerment programmes, and broader opportunities for young people in Enugu North Senatorial Zone and across the state.
Reassuring its members and the public, the NYGA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development. It urged youths in Nsukka to remain law-abiding and focus on positive engagements that advance the collective interest of the region.
The statement was jointly signed by Comrade Eze Juliet Adaeze, Vice President; Comrade Uchenna Ernest, Secretary General; Comrade Onyeji Kingsley, Treasurer; Ambassador Ugwu Samuel, Organizing Secretary; Comrade Asogwa Thomas, Auditor; and Comrade Ugwu Kingsley A.
