The election for the chairmanship position of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) Enugu State Information Chapel has been declared inconclusive.
This followed a tie between the two candidates, Mr. Hyginus Odoh and Mr. Ifeanyi Egbo at a keenly contested election.
Making the announcement at exactly 2:30pm, on Thursday, the returning officer, Dr. Benedict Ezema, said the results of the election could not be declared because there was no winner as the two candidates got same votes, 45 each.
Ezema who is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, said there would be a re-run election for the chairmanship position in line with the NUJ constitution.
He noted that the new date for the election would be communicated by the electoral committee, adding that certificate of return would not be presented to anyone till a chairman is elected.
The permanent secretary commended members of the Chapel for conducting themselves well, during and after the process, describing it as most peaceful and transparent in the Chapel.
However, other officers were elected. They include Ugochi Nwoke (Vice Chairman), Obianuju Ezeh (Secretary), Lucy Harry-Enwu (Asst. Sec.), Ogochukwu Onah (Fin. Sec.), Mercy Oko (Treasurer), and Paul Enechukwu (Auditor).
The election was monitored by the NUJ State Executive Members led by the Secretary, Dame Ifeoma Amuta.
