Nigeria Steals the Show as Rema Wins Big at AFRIMA

Nigerian artistes emerged as the biggest winners at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held yesterday in Lagos, underscoring the country’s continued dominance on the continental music scene.

Leading the night’s honours was global Afrobeats sensation Rema, who clinched three major awards.

The singer was named Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in RnB and Soul, marking one of the most outstanding individual performances at this year’s ceremony.

Grammy Award-winning star Burna Boy also recorded a notable outing, winning Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness.

In addition, he shared the award for Best African Collaboration with rising star Shallipopi. Shallipopi further solidified his growing influence by winning Song of the Year for his hit track Laho.

Female powerhouse Yemi Alade added to Nigeria’s medal haul after receiving Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for her song You Are, featured in the animated series Iyanu.

In other key categories, indigenous rap icon Phyno was crowned Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop, reaffirming his relevance and longevity in the genre.

Representing East Africa, Tanzania’s Juma Jux won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, standing out among strong regional contenders.

The awards also spotlighted emerging talent, with Qing Madi named Most Promising Artiste of the Year, while Chella secured the African Fans’ Favourite award, reflecting strong audience engagement and popular appeal.

The 9th AFRIMA ceremony brought together top artistes, industry executives, and music stakeholders from across the continent, celebrating Africa’s musical diversity and the growing global impact of African sounds.
