Man laments, blames Bauchi Teaching Hospital for the death of his pregnant wife

A 40-year-old worker of the Bauchi Radio Corporation, Adamu Misau, has said his pregnant wife died because of alleged doctor’s negligence after complications following a stillbirth on July 22 at a Primary Health Care facility.

Misau, who spoke to journalists on Tuesday, said his wife, who had her antenatal at the PHC in Bauchi metropolis, was referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.

He said his wife, Seliha Muhammad, had surgery at the tertiary hospital and later needed to be placed on dialysis machine.

He explaine:

“They told us that their machine was not functional and referred us to the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital.

“This happened in the morning of August 4, but they did not release her to go for the dialysis at the specialist hospital until 11pm; she was delayed for about 12 hours.

“When they finally released her, one of the doctors tore a sheet of paper, not letterhead of ATBUTH, and wrote to the receiving hospital, ‘Sir, to whom it may concern, please, kindly help and suture the site that I forgot to suture. I have already dressed the site by the time I saw the suture’, which she signed.”

He urged the State Commissioners for health and women affairs to get justice for his wife.
