A Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), based in Imo State, Mamah Humanitarian Initiative (MHI) has put smiles on the faces of over 200 women and widows living in the Owerri Municipal by giving them palliatives to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence which was celebrated on October 1st, 2024.

Speaking during the event which took place at the Council Headquarters in Owerri Municipal, the President of the foundation Arch. (Dr) Deji Osinowo, a Yoruba man who is happily married to an Igbo woman described the gesture as something he did from the little he had.

“I don’t have the money, but I have the heart of the people. And that is why I have love for the women, I love the mothers, I help the widows. God has used us to start in a little way. This is something I have been doing for the past five years and I pray we keep sustaining it” he stated.

Part of items shared were rice, indomie noodles, vegetable oil, tomato paste among others while women who gathered wore smiling faces as they picked their pack which will be used to cushion the hardship in Nigeria as cost of living has now gone haywire.

The highlight of the event was a N300,000 raffle draw bonanza which was announced for one lucky person, while a fortunate young girl from the crowd who had a sick mother at home was the luckiest person after picking the cash on the spot when her raffle draw number was called up.

Most of the women who benefited from the magnanimity of Dr. Osinowo prayed immensely for him, asking God to replenish his purse for the kind gesture as they also added that this Independence Day is significant as this is the first time they will see a Yoruba man sharing palliatives to them over here.
