Maintenance: Mainpower Disco announces planned power outage in parts of Enugu

Parts of Enugu metropolis are set to experience a weeklong power outage as the MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) commences a major maintenance exercise in partnership with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

In a statement on Monday, MEDL’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, said the scheduled outage will run from Wednesday, October 22 to Thursday, October 31, 2025, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, affecting several feeder lines in phases.

According to him, the blackout will begin with Kingsway Line 1 on Oct. 22, followed by Emene Industrial Line 1 on Oct. 23, Thinkers Corner Line on Oct. 24, and Trans Ekulu Line on Oct. 25.

Others scheduled for maintenance include Kingsway Line 2 and 9th Mile Line on Oct. 26; Emene Industrial Line 2 on Oct. 28; Ugwuogo Line on Oct. 29; and Ituku Ozalla Line on Oct. 31.

The affected 33KV feeders include Kingsway Lines 1 and 2, Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, Thinkers Corner, Trans Ekulu, Ugwuogo, and Ituku Ozalla Lines.

Areas to be hit by the power cut include Emene Industrial, Abakpa, Trans-Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, 9th Mile, Shoprite, Golf Estate, Zoo Estate, Okpara Avenue, Kingsway, Uwani, Asata, Ngwo, Centenary City, Amechi, Obeagu, and surrounding communities.

Ezeh appealed for understanding from residents and businesses, assuring that the exercise was part of TCN’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve supply reliability across Enugu and its environs.
