Enugu State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Aka Eze Aka, says the state government especially his ministry will work with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as critical stakeholders to promote policies and programmes of government.
Aka, stated this when members of NUJ, Enugu state Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Wednesday.
He said Mbah’s administration would relate with the members for better understanding and collaboration.
He pointed out that the Governor was interested in information dissemination and that was why he revived the ministry which had existed for three years without a Commissioner by appointing him as a commissioner for the ministry.
According to him, Mbah is information friendly and when he came on board, he decided that there should be a Ministry of Information to close the lacuna created by the previous administration.
“So, I would like to tell you that this government is interested practically and conveniently to relate with you as a body and individuals.
“I need to work with you so that we can push Enugu State forward especially now Gov. Mbah is driving towards making Enugu State one of the top three states in Nigeria in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and zero-poverty-index rate.
“This is not an easy affair even though we mouth it but we should understand that it calls for a lot of sacrifice,” Aka stated.
He, however, solicited the NUJ’s partnership and collaboration to achieve these proposed giant strides by Mbah led government, noting that it was attainable if all the stakeholders support the administration.
Earlier in his remarks, the state Chairman of the Union, Comrade Sam Udekwe appreciated good works the Commissioner had been doing in the Ministry in particular and the State at large and sought for the government more support in terms of the Union’s Welfare.
He stressed amongst other things that through Aka, the state government could provide vehicle to the union to help them carry out their duties effectively in the state.
Speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Union, Comrade Rejis Anukwuoji, in appreciation of the Commissioner’s warm reception, emphasised the need for the state government working with the Union in the state.
He said the partnership would enable journalists in the State publish the roads being constructed and rehabilitated as well as other infrastructure being put in place by the administration for public to see.
