The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has Inaugurated the newly constructed Affa Police Division in Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, as part of efforts to expand police presence and deepen community policing, especially in rural areas.
Speaking through the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr. Bitrus Giwa, during the ceremony on Tuesday, the IGP said the new division was a strategic intervention to address security gaps in Affa Community and the wider Udi axis.
He noted that the initiative aligns with his commitment to bringing policing closer to the people and ensuring that residents’ security and safety needs are adequately met.
Egbetokun called on community leaders and residents to support the new division morally, materially, and logistically to enable officers to commence effective operations without delay.
He also charged the pioneer Divisional Police Officer and personnel to uphold professionalism, integrity, and respect for citizens’ rights, while remaining firm and proactive in crime prevention.
The IGP warned against financial impropriety and other conduct capable of bringing disrepute to the Force, including the practice known as “crying down credit.”
The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uche Ugwu; Chairman of Udi Local Government Area, Hyginus Agu; traditional rulers, community leaders, senior police officers, and other stakeholders.
