Two non-governmental organisations, Heroine Women Foundation (HEWOF) and Women Support Women (WOSUWO) have congratulated Sen. Uche Ekwunife, on her appointment as the Director-General, (DG) South East Governors Forum (SEGF).
Recall that the chairman of the Forum and governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma on Monday appointed Ekwunife to coordinate the activities of the SEGF at its Secretariat in Enugu.
The SEGF is the coordinating body for the governors of the five states in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone, namely Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, and Abia States.
In her new role, she would oversee the Forum’s Secretariat in Enugu and collaborate with the five governors to pursue common objectives.
Congratulating the former senator, who represented Anambra Central at the Red Chambers, Amb. Onyinye Mamah, the Executive Director of the organisations, described the appointment as well deserved.
Mamah noted that the appointment is coming at a time when women in the south east are clamouring and calling for inclusion in governance as well as appointing them to sensitive positions.
She expressed optimism that the former lawmaker would deploy her rich wealth of legislative experience to bear in her new position, stressing that Ekwunife would ensure that the Forum’s resolutions, policies and programmes are implemented.
The Executive Director then commended the Imo State Governor, Senator Uzodimma for the confidence in the female lawmaker and urged him to sustain the tempo.
