Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, yesterday, joined the clergy, faithful, and thousands of mourners at Nsukka for the funeral of the late Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, Most Rev. Francis Emmanuel Ogbonna Okobo.

Governor Mbah, in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @PNMbah, described the late bishop as “a great shepherd, a man who gave his life in total service to God and humanity.”

Reflecting on Bishop Okobo’s life and legacy, the Governor noted that the bishop emeritus walked the path of faith with humility, grace, and unwavering devotion. “He built churches, schools, and communities of faith, leaving behind a diocese firmly rooted in service, charity, and education,” he stated.

According to the Governor, “Bishop Okobo was more than a cleric — he was a father, a teacher, and a bridge-builder. He lifted the poor, guided the youth, comforted the brokenhearted, and even in retirement remained steadfast in prayer and intercession. His life was a homily, his example a catechism, and his presence a benediction.”

Mbah further pledged that Okobo’s values would be preserved in the state. “On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, I pledge that his legacy will not be forgotten. We will honour him through our commitment to education, healthcare, and the dignity of man — values he cherished deeply.”

Addressing the Okobo family and the Diocese of Nsukka, the Governor assured them that they do not mourn alone, adding that the bishop’s life of fidelity, sacrifice, and impact remains the collective pride of the state.
