The Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Engr Beloved-Dan Anike, has hailed the Smart Green School initiative championed by Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, as a “paradigm shift” and a transformative milestone in the future of education in Nigeria.

Engr Anike made the declaration during an inspection tour of the Smart School projects in his council area, Monday, ahead of the September 2025 resumption date.

According to him, the scope, speed, and vision behind the construction of over 260 state-of-the-art Smart Green Schools across the state have positioned Enugu as a national pacesetter in education reform.

“Only a visionary and courageous leader like Governor Peter Mbah could muster the audacity to conceive and implement such a radical transformation in education. This is not just an upgrade — this is a new era of learning,” Anike said during the inspection.

The chairman, who personally assessed the level of work at the Umuigbo Smart School, expressed satisfaction with the progress, describing the facilities as “game-changing tools” that will equip students with critical 21st-century skills, foster creativity, and enhance global competitiveness.

As part of his tour, the chairman also paid an unscheduled visit to Umuchigbo Community High School, where he was warmly received by students and teachers during their end-of-session ceremony.

In an emotional address, the chairman described the visit as a “homecoming”, recalling his foundational role in establishing the school over a decade ago.

“This school holds special significance, as I was privileged to be its visionary founder back in 2008, although academic activities officially commenced during the 2012/2013 session. Today, it proudly stands as one of the most populated and vibrant secondary schools in Enugu State,” he said.

With excitement, Anike announced that students of the school will resume in September to a fully equipped Smart Green School, currently at over 90% completion.

“I had a heartwarming interaction with the teachers and staff, and I hinted at what is to come — the transformation that awaits them and their students with the imminent completion and commissioning of the Smart School,” he noted.

He described the initiative as a paradigm shift that would redefine the learning environment across the state through digital classrooms, robust ICT infrastructure, e-libraries, well-equipped science laboratories, and dedicated teacher innovation hubs.

“The Smart School system is a blueprint for the future. It will revolutionize learning and unleash creativity, critical thinking, and digital competency among our children,” he added.

The local government chairman further praised Governor Mbah for demonstrating bold, strategic leadership in tackling the root challenges of public education through massive investment in infrastructure, technology deployment, and human capital development.

“All thanks to the visionary leadership of Dr. Peter Mbah, whose commitment to disrupting the status quo in education is becoming a living reality. Indeed, a new era of knowledge, innovation, and global competitiveness is unfolding right here in Umuchigbo, and across Enugu State,” he stressed.

As construction nears completion across the state, the Enugu East chairman said the local government is working closely with the state’s Ministry of Education to ensure a seamless transition to the new model in September.

The Smart Green School project has been described as a flagship of the Mbah administration which aimed to radically overhaul public education in Enugu State through the deployment of technology-driven infrastructure, modern teaching methods, and a future-focused curriculum.
