Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah

As part of his administration’s forward-looking reforms in the justice sector, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, of Enugu State, at the weekend, reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuous training and capacity building of staff in the State Ministry of Justice.

This, he said, would ensure a more efficient, and citizen-focused justice delivery system.

Mbah stated this during a one-day capacity-building workshop held at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Enugu.

Represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Tochi Udeh, the governor emphasized that achieving his vision for accelerated justice reform requires a well-equipped and professionally empowered legal workforce.

“Capacity building is not optional, it is essential,” he said. “If those entrusted with the responsibility of executing our justice sector transformation agenda are not well-trained and motivated, our goals will remain unattainable”.

He emphasized that this is why his administration has prioritized continuous professional development.

He further disclosed that regular training and retraining sessions will be institutionalised as a key component of staff development.

He described this approach as a strategic empowerment tool designed to equip legal officers with the skills and knowledge required to meet the demands of modern public service.

Also speaking at the workshop, the Head, Legal Drafting, Barr. Chidi Chime, encouraged participants to approach the training with seriousness and dedication.

She noted that the successful implementation of justice sector reforms hinges on the competence and commitment of legal practitioners.

“We cannot speak of a reformed and efficient justice system if our personnel are not adequately prepared,” she said. “Every officer must rise to the challenge and give their best in any role they are assigned.”

In her vote of thanks, the Chairperson of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Enugu Chapter, Barr. Pamela Kosi Onyia, commended the Attorney General for initiating the training programme.

She described the workshop as a timely morale booster and a clear demonstration of the Ministry’s readiness to embrace transformation under Governor Mbah’s progressive leadership.

The training is one of several initiatives being rolled out under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, which is firmly committed to repositioning Enugu State’s justice system through innovation, human capital development, and the full digitization of legal processes.
