It was a nostalgic moment at the November edition of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council Congress when veteran journalist, Chief Odogwu Odoemenam went down memory lane to share his experiences as a journalist.

Chief Odoemenam who worked at the defunct National Light newspapers lament closure of the state-owned newspaper by the state government led by Gov Charles Soludo. He stated that as it stands now, there is no tabloid in the state, and said there should be a tabloid in the state.

The 95-year-old Chief Odoemena said among other things, that the key to his being healthy and strong is avoiding alcohol, drinking enough water and not keeping grudges.

He urged journalists to market themselves before others. “A journalist must market himself before other commodity” ing being a journalist made him who he is today.

“Journalism is actually a profession that if actually you want to be a journalist you go there with pride, you go there with truth, you go there with honesty.”

According to him, journalists would not know how much they have done till they go outside.

He chastised journalists who say there is no news and questioned why they won’t report that there is no news as news.

He went on to commend the leadership of the NUJ in Anambra led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and urged he and his executive to do more.
