Foundation, Peter Obi Lauded as Anglican Diocese Inaugurates Hospital in Enugu Community

The Anglican Diocese of Enugu has commissioned and dedicated the Anglican Community Hospital in Amafor Ihuokpara, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, in a significant step toward expanding access to quality healthcare in rural communities.

Former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, who was represented at the event by Prof. Patrick Obi, commended the Anglican community for facilitating critical infrastructure, including improved road access and a functional healthcare facility for residents.

He noted that Obi remains committed to supporting initiatives that directly uplift ordinary citizens, particularly projects that promote health, dignity, and human development.

The hospital initiative was conceived under the leadership of the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt. Rev’d Prof. Samuel O. Ike.

In October 2024, the Bishop inaugurated a committee tasked with establishing health facilities in underserved areas across the diocese, with Amafor Ihuokpara emerging as the top priority following a needs assessment.

Equipped with solar power, a reliable water supply, and essential medical infrastructure, the facility will be registered with the Enugu State Ministry of Health as an Anglican Community Hospital.

It is designed to operate 24 hours daily offering preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare services, in addition to community outreach programmes.

Recruitment of qualified medical personnel is ongoing, while the hospital is scheduled to begin full public operations on February 1, 2026.

In his remarks, Bishop Ike expressed gratitude to donors and supporters, particularly the Obieri Foundation and Mr. Peter Obi, as well as churches within the diocese and other well-meaning individuals, for their contributions toward strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery.
