The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, Delta State, has confirmed the election of Dr. Efetobor Ogheneyoma Elijah, as the institution’s pioneer Deputy Rector (Academic).

His appointment was ratified at the Council meeting held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Dr. Efetobor, who will serve a single four-year non-renewable tenure, had earlier emerged winner of the Academic Board election conducted on November 12, 2025, in line with the Federal Polytechnics (Amendment) Act, 2019.

His elevation makes him the Polytechnic’s first Deputy Rector (Academic). The office mandates him to support the Rector in academic administration, act on behalf of the Rector when required, and perform duties assigned by the Management or Governing Council.

Reacting to the ratification, Dr. Efetobor expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the Rector, Prof. Duke Okoro, for nominating him, as well as the Academic Board and the Governing Council for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged commitment to the institution’s vision, promising to strengthen academic administration and contribute to ongoing reforms.

“This appointment is a call to greater responsibility,” he said. “I will work to add value to the Management Team and uphold the core values and aspirations of Federal Polytechnic Orogun.”

Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Niyi Akinnaso, said the ratification reflected confidence in Dr. Efetobor’s capacity to support the institution’s academic leadership. “We expect him to justify this trust by contributing to excellence, innovation, and stability,” he noted.

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Orogun Chapter, Dr. John Atake, also welcomed the appointment, describing it as well deserved.
