Enugu South Local Government Area, Friday, hosted a sensitisation programme on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and a public hearing on the proposed Enugu State Gender Policy.

The event was organised by the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the South Saharan Social Development Organisation (SSDO), with support from the Ford Foundation.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, commended the Enugu South Council Chairman for providing a platform to advance conversations around gender justice.

She appreciated Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the First Lady for championing policies that protect and empower women and children across the state.

According to Mrs. Enih, the public hearing aimed to give women a voice on critical issues affecting their rights, such as female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and other forms of GBV.

She also acknowledged SSDO and the Ford Foundation for their consistent support in promoting gender reforms in Enugu State.
