The Enugu State Council of President-Generals has thrown its full weight behind Governor Peter Mbah’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a bold, strategic masterstroke that has repositioned Enugu at the centre of national politics.
The declaration was made on Thursday in Enugu during a capacity-building workshop for community leaders, organised by the Council to enhance grassroots leadership and service delivery.
President of the Council, Hon. Arinze Ogbodo, praised Governor Mbah for his visionary and transformative governance style, saying his decision to align the state with the ruling party reflected the collective will of the people.
“What the governor did was a people-driven decision. Enugu has now regained its voice in national politics, and we are already feeling the impact of being part of the centre of power,” Ogbodo said.
He highlighted ongoing infrastructure expansion, rural electrification, Smart Green Schools, and new Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres as proof of Mbah’s developmental strides, urging the government to enhance support and welfare for community leaders.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Okey Ogbodo, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening town unions as vital partners in community transformation, through reforms and leadership training.
Participants described the workshop as a timely step toward deepening collaboration between government and communities for sustainable development across Enugu State.
